Seamus O’ Byrne was born in Dublin in 1957. He is primarily self-taught, studied in National College of Art and Design part-time, life drawing in Trinity Centre, Lincoln Place, and lithography in the Graphic Studios, Dublin.

He was secretary of “Figurative Image” group of artists for a number of years. Presently he is a committee member of Dunlavin Festival of Arts and a member of Visual Artists Ireland.

He is a full time painter working mainly in oils and acrylics. His work is principally figurative with a keen interest in the dynamics of the natural world. He lives in West Wicklow where his love of nature, the landscape and wild places have been hugely inspirational in the development of his work. Often it is the less obvious or neglected aspects of our environment that triggers a starting point for the work.
